The 5E5-A Fender Pro is a somewhat rare model, as it was produced in lower quantities compared to many other Tweed-era amps. One of its more interesting traits is how closely it relates to the Low-Powered Twin—when you compare the schematics, you’ll notice they share a very similar preamp design. The same holds true for other “E” designation 6L6 circuits, such as the 5E6 Bassman, 5E7 Bandmaster, and 5E8 Twin (aside from some duplicated channels on the front end). What may appear to be heavy wear on the cabinet is actually black paint showing through in various areas of the tweed. It may have been sprayed and later stripped, though it’s difficult to say for certain.Internally, the amp has seen very few changes over the years, with only the power cord and electrolytic caps replaced. One bias resistor has also been changed, but otherwise all of the original resistors and Astron coupling caps remain intact, preserving that unmistakable Tweed Fender sound. It should also be noted that despite the tube chart saying "5E5" this is in fact a "5E5-A" circuit, which is quite different and frankly more desirable.
