The Tweed-era Fender Princeton can be thought of as an expanded version of the Champ, offering a larger cabinet and the addition of a tone control. The 5E2 is a less commonly seen circuit and features a unique design element in the form of a choke placed inline before the B+ voltage. This contributes to some nice compression, layered on top of the warm crunch generated by the single-ended 6V6. The front grill cloth has been replaced and is a good visual match to the original.
Internally, the power cord and electrolytic caps have been replaced, along with the Astron coupling caps swapped for modern equivalents. The tone pot has also been changed. Otherwise, all of the original resistors remain intact—please see photos for details. The speaker is a 1959 Jensen P8S 8", which leans dark tonally but really comes alive when pushed. The worn tweed aesthetic is on full display here, delivering that unmistakable charm to match its sound!
