This 1968 Bassman features the "drip-edge" aesthetics, indicating it was produced right after the Blackface era, but before the circuit changes seen in the later Silverface amps. These are often considered a great value, as they share many similarities with Blackface amps and sell for a lower price. The tube chart reads "AB165," but this is actually a hybrid version used briefly from late 1967 to 1968, featuring a partially cathode-biased power section. These are rare amps and offer a unique sound, representing a natural progression from the mid-'60s era, in contrast to the less desirable designs of later CBS models. This one has a replaced power cord and bias cap, but is otherwise original inside. It shows minor signs of previous wear and still looks great!
While fully functional, the buyer should note that this amp has all original electronics, including electrolytic caps that have long since expired. For optimal performance, whether for gigging or otherwise, servicing is recommended (cap job, etc.).
