The 6G16 Vibroverb was produced for just one year in 1963, making it one of the rarest Fender amps of the era. Its significance extends far beyond its rarity, however, as it was a true innovator. The 6G16 was the first Fender amplifier to feature onboard reverb, effectively serving as the prototype for all of the Blackface reverb amps that followed. It also features a unique reverb circuit compared to the later models, along with a bias-wiggle tremolo in place of the optocoupler design used during the Blackface era.
This particular example is in fabulous condition for it's age, with only a small blemish in the lower right grillcloth. The original Oxford speakers have been professionally reconed and sound excellent. Internally, the power cord, bias cap and resistors, along with roughly half of the filter caps, have been replaced. Otherwise, the amp remains all original.
The 1963 Vibroverb is a tremendous piece of Fender history, bridging the gap between the Brown and Blackface eras while introducing features that would shape the company's amps for years to come. Simply put, this is a stunning vintage amp in both sound and historical significance!
