This Princeton Amp is a transition-era piece, built shortly after the Blackface models gave way to the new Silverface design. It features the classic "Drip-Edge" aesthetic, with aluminum trim surrounding the front grille cloth, while still retaining the desirable AA964 circuit.
Often referred to as the "Princeton Non-Reverb," this no-frills model delivers exceptional tone at a fraction of the cost of its reverb-equipped counterparts. With one fewer gain stage due to the absence of a reverb recovery circuit, it offers a bit more headroom and, depending on the individual amp, can even produce slightly more output. The original speaker has been replaced with a stalwart Electro-Voice EVM-10M, which sounds excellent and delivers the amp's full output without any trace of speaker breakup.
This particular example shows signs of long-term storage, including some oxidation on the metal hardware and a few tolex blemishes around the lower edges. Fortunately, it's in superb electronic condition and runs exceptionally quiet at idle. Internally, the electrolytic caps have been replaced, but otherwise the amp remains all original.
