Description
This Deluxe was built in April of 1961, making it one of the very last 5E3 Tweed Deluxes produced. Another neat feature of this particular amp is the factory-installed Triad 8160 power transformer, rather than the more commonly seen 6452. The 8160 is typically found in Tremolux and Super models, which also utilize a pair of 6V6 power tubes. As a result, this amp has a slightly fuller sound and might produce an extra watt or two of output!
The 5E3 Tweed Deluxe stands as one of the definitive Fender designs of the 1950s. Countless builders have attempted to recreate this legendary circuit, but there's still something special about the originals, especially those retaining their original transformers. This American classic shows signs of prolonged storage, with oxidation on the metal hardware, but remains in very good condition overall. Aside from a cigarette burn and a small tear on the front corner, there are no significant cosmetic blemishes. The knobs have been changed, with two metal pointer knobs, along with one repro chicken head style.
Internally, the amp has been serviced for reliable modern use with a replaced power cord, updated filter caps, and one changed power resistor. Otherwise, the circuit remains original, retaining an auspicious mix of Astron and Blue Molded Ajax coupling caps. Please see the circuit photos for further details.
