The chassis of this amp came from a 2007 Limited Edition model, built for the 50th anniversary of the legendary Tweed Deluxe. These normally come with a black lacquer “hot rod” style cabinet, though this one has been rehoused in a modern Mojotone Tweed-style combo cab. It features hand-wired circuitry, Mercury Magnetics transformers, and an in-house mod from CVG! The change is subtle and consists of swapping the original 5E3 circuit’s 0.1uf coupling caps for vintage “Blue Molded” 0.047uf types.
The Blue Molded caps are well-known from their use during the Blackface era, and we have a stockpile of 0.047uf values, pulled while replacing death caps during power cord swaps. The only other change is the use of a 12AU7 in place of the stock 12AY7, in V1. These changes help tame the often flubby low end and make the gain control more usable. There’s also a bit more headroom—whereas a standard 5E3 circuit tends to break up immediately at low settings. It’s a great change—feel free to request a demo from our sales staff!
