This amp was built during the metal-front era and features the long-style headshell, designed to fit snugly into the indentations on top of 4x12 cabinets. While it follows the classic 'Plexi' formula, it retains that signature crunchy tone with a slightly smoother response. It’s equipped with the Drake 1202-164 power transformer, which operates at a lower voltage than earlier models, resulting in a mellower sound with slightly reduced wattage. The amp shows moderate signs of wear, with some tolex scrapes in spots along the rear, though is still structurally sound.

Internally, the bias feed resistors have been swapped to accomodate the change from 6550 to EL34 power tubes, but the circuit is otherwise original. See circuit photos for details. Be sure to check out the '70s checkerboard 1960A slant cabinet we also have for sale, as it pairs perfectly with this 1974 head!

Despite being fully functional the buyer should note this amp has long expired filter capacitors. While many amps are run this way for years without issue, anyone planning on prolonged or regular gigging use would be advised to have it serviced.
