Built in 1964, just before the CBS transition, this Bassman circuit is the rare AA864 variety. These are getting hard to find these days, and we've only come across a couple in the past few years. It offers slightly less gain than the AB165 version and delivers a more straightforward Blackface sound, like a non-reverb Deluxe with 6L6 tubes and larger transformers. The output transformer has been replaced, but with the same OEM Schumacher type from 1971, preserving the amp's signature sound.
This amp is in great condition, showing only minimal signs of previous wear. Internally, the electrolytic caps have been replaced, along with the power tube sockets and power resistors. Otherwise, the preamp has had a single resistor swapped for a modern carbon comp equivalent. The pinnacle of 60s American classic rock tone is on full display here, in a highly collectible platform!
