It's safe to say that Tweed Twin amps have achieved near-mythical status, as we come across very few of them these days. Their magic lies in the classic Tweed formula, consisting of top notch, golden-era American-made transformers/speakers—though the low-powered Twin features a particularly unique preamp circuit. The sound is somewhat similar to a Bassman, but with more useful tone controls, slightly less gain, and a more graceful breakup at higher volumes.
This amp has been re-covered, with a nice coat of lacquer sprayed over the tweed to help match with aging. Internally, the power cord and electrolytic caps have been replaced, along with one power resistor. Two coupling caps and one tone cap have also been swapped, and the rest are the original yellow Astrons. A couple of preamp resistors have been replaced with modern carbon comp equivalents; the rest are original. Please refer to the circuit pictures for further details.
The speakers are period-appropriate vintage Jensen P12Qs, which sound very warm and broken-in. Overall, this amp has all the right ingredients to deliver that classic Tweed tone everyone’s after! The tube chart has an "A" written in after the 5E8, which is a common correction to see from the Fender factory.
