This 1954 Deluxe looks fantastic for its age, with a beautiful amber hue to its lacquered tweed covering. It features the rare 5D3 circuit, which was just before the 5E3 in 1955 and marks the first Deluxe to use 9-pin tubes instead of octals. This results in a unique sound, retaining a bit of the octal midrange bark but offering more refinement, thanks to the 12AX7 in the phase inverter.
Internally, the power cord and electrolytic caps have been replaced. The original Astron coupling caps have also been swapped for modern equivalents, but all of the original carbon comp resistors remain intact. Thankfully, these updates have only enhanced the amp’s sound, preserving its vintage character while ensuring longevity. The speaker is a period-correct P12Q from 1955, which many players prefer over the lower-wattage P12R. This amp has been serviced and is ready to be played!
