Description
The Fender Bassman represents a proud lineage in the realm of American amplification. From the legendary 5F6-A tweed circuit, all the way to the modern examples you find so many different flavors depending on the era. This particular Bassman is a January '62 amp, with the original 6G6 circuit. This is a nice transition between Tweed and Blackface, which leans more towards the JTM45 sound compared to the later 60's. Something very cool to note is the use of the single 15" speaker in this model, making it one of the few Bassman amps with an 8ohm output transformer. A further rarity is the fact this has a factory solid state rectifier, unlike the GZ34 you find on most 6G6 amps. Internally, this amp has retained all of the most important factors, with the only changes being electrolytic caps, screen grid resistors, and power cord.Condition wise you could say it has character.. it was brought in by the original owner, and shows signs of many late nights spent at the bar, used as both a guitar counterpart and place to rest a lit cigarette. Despite a few blemishes the structure and tolex are still in great shape, without any noticeable rips or tears. Surprisingly it doesn't have an imminent cigarette smell, and mostly just exhibits the charming scent of any old Fender that's seen some years. And like many others - the sound matches the external character character quite perfectly!
