This stunning George Gruhn Shade Top D-18 is an immediate classic through and through, but the biggest selling point—aside from the Adirondack spruce top and forward-shifted scalloped bracing—is the old-growth sinker mahogany, harvested in Belize between 1880 and 1920. Finding high quality tonewoods that rival those used on the Golden Era instruments is no small feat, so here's an opportunity to grab a modern guitar that sports mahogany that could have very well ended up on one of those pre-war gems!
This 2022 D-18 is beast, with a wonderfully dark bass that can deliver up a bit of growl when needed, and warm, clear mids and highs. A natural fit for bluegrass, this is a great thumbpicker's dread, too. Overall condition is excellent, with just some minor finish swirls and pick marks on the top but no dings or scratches that break finish.
