This 1938 Martin D-28 is an iconic prewar dreadnought, with a commanding tone that's fully opened up over the decades. It's had its neck swapped with a D-28 a few serial numbers away, with a shimmed nut, re-fret, and neck reset— all professional, high-quality work. Four top cracks were re-glued near the fingerboard extension and the finish was touched up, supported underneath by an added popsicle brace, and the bridge, pins, and saddle were all replaced. The X-braces have been re-glued, the bridge plate plugged and re-drilled, and the binding has been touched up. The sides near the heel show light overspray, and the neck itself is well-played in. A heel block strip was installed as well.
This guitar has a presence that’s hard to miss, with a low end that feels wide and steady without getting muddy. The midrange has a dry, focused quality that helps notes stand apart even in heavier rhythm playing. Trebles come through with a clear, ringing top edge that never feels brittle. Together, it’s the kind of voice that carries itself powerfully and with ease.
Includes Main Stage Cases hard shell case.
