This 1938 Martin D-28 is a remarkable pre-war example, retaining much of the character that makes these early D-28s so desirable. The Brazilian rosewood back and sides and Adirondack spruce top give the guitar a powerful, clear response with plenty of depth, while the original bridge plate remains in place with maple plug reinforcement. The guitar has had a neck reset and refret, along with a replacement bridge with a slightly oversized footprint, shimmed replacement nut, and bone saddle. Several structural repairs have been completed over the years, including a circumferential minor volute crack, center seam crack repair, a 2" crack repair near the bass side of the soundhole, and a repaired B-string crack. There are also several deep finish cracks and some localized lacquer touch-up, including a 2" scratch on the lower treble-side bout. The guitar presents in really great vintage condition for a pre-war Martin, with mild buckle rash and back wear and light finish checking. It retains the look, materials, and powerful acoustic character that make a late-1930s D-28 such a significant instrument.

Includes period correct hard shell case.
