Regarded as one of the greatest guitars of all time, the Martin D-28 is the grandfather of dreadnoughts. Many feel that this is the point when Martin reached the nexus of guitar building and perfecting their instruments. This example from 1937 is a timestamp in history to show us just how wonderful the craftsman were in the earlier years. Sonic qualities are full of the best notes a player could hopeful. First of all, the entire guitar was expertly refinished in nitrocellulose lacquer, likely at the Martin factory in the late 1960s. The context clues being the color and consistency of the lacquer and the late 1960s Martin hardshell case it has been residing in for many years. There was a headstock break, which might have spurred a theorized trip to the Martin factory. The crack is stabilized and has since been finished over to disguise its presence.
