This 1937 Martin C-2 began life as an archtop before being expertly converted to a flattop by luthier Alan Perlman, giving it a new voice while preserving its prewar character. The conversion includes an Adirondack spruce top paired with the original body, creating a combination that draws from two distinct chapters of Martin history. A replacement bridge, neck reset, and refret ensure the instrument is set up for continued use, while reglued back braces and other thoughtful restoration work address structural concerns accumulated over decades of playing.
Visually, the top remains in excellent condition, contrasting with the honest wear found on the back and sides. Additional work includes replacement fingerboard ivoroid that has been restained, a thin ebony shim beneath the fingerboard, and a professionally installed strap button. Prewar Martin conversions like this occupy a unique space in the vintage market, offering an opportunity to experience old-growth materials and 1930s construction through a different lens.
Includes Hoffee hard shell case.
