The ES-355 sat at the top of Gibson's semi-hollow lineup in 1960, combining upscale appointments with the versatility of the ES platform. This Cherry example has had a replacement neck from 1965 or later, bringing with it the narrower nut width introduced during that period, along with replacement Patent Number pickups and a wired Patent Number bridge. The original strap buttons remain with the guitar in the case pocket, and other than the pick swap, the electronics appear largely undisturbed, with factory-looking solder covering the tone pot codes and shield cans still present on the volume pots. Despite its changes, the guitar retains the elegant character that defines an early ES-355, with bound ebony fingerboard, split-diamond headstock inlay, and gold hardware complementing the vibrant Cherry finish. Presented in very good condition, it is an intriguing vintage Gibson with unique modifications.
