The Fender Harvard amp has become somewhat elusive these days, as we rarely see them come through our doors. It can be considered a "one-channel" version of the Tweed Deluxe, eliminating the Normal side and is driven by a single triode 6AV6 tube. Compared to the 5E3 Deluxe, the output tends to be on the tamer side, making it a lower-volume alternative. This no-nonsense design excels in its simplicity, which is why it has begun to eclipse the demand for the mighty 5E3 Deluxe. This particular amp shows the classic worn Tweed character, with a great sound to match. It even has some lacquer overspray on part of the Tweed, though the panels and covering remain original.
The replaced output transformer appears to be from a similar era as the original Triad, and research indicates it’s a late '50s or early '60s Motorola brand. Internally, the electrolytic caps and power cord have been replaced, and the bias supply has been converted to a standard diode setup instead of the original Selenium. All the original yellow Astron coupling caps and carbon comp resistors are still present.
