Mahogany back and sides pairs well with a sunburst-clad spruce top for a clear and projecting sound. This J-55 received a neck reset, overspray to the back and sides, replaced bridge plate, refret, and replacement tuning machines. Overall the condition is very good and in excellent playing order. The tone is dry and full of clarity with plenty of bottom end, like the best Gibsons of the era. The J-55 is a beautiful and rare instrument that performs well with heavy strumming and moderate finger picking. Designed to fill the role of the AJ, the J-55 is an impressive counterpart that adds a new dimension to any sloped shoulder collection.
