Built at the turn of the '60s, the "Tweed" era of Gibson was brief but produced some of the best amps ever made by the brand. The GA-77RV Vanguard was their flagship model, featuring built-in reverb and a 15" Jensen speaker. This amp shows moderate signs of wear but still looks good despite having spent some years in storage.
Internally, it has a replaced power cord and electrolytic capacitors, along with the original coupling caps. The majority of the original carbon-comp preamp resistors are still intact. This particular amp was used by the J. Geils Band and was purchased from the Skinner Auction House.I
t’s worth noting that due to the design of this amp, some users may experience a higher noise floor, depending on their AC power. This was one of the earliest amps to feature built-in reverb, likely before ideal design methods for proper shielding were established.
