The Gibson A-2 comes from the company's early years in Kalamazoo, when Orville Gibson's carved-top mandolin designs were still shaping the direction of American fretted instruments. This 1916 example has seen over a century of use and careful maintenance, including a reglued back, a reglued brace, and repaired cracks that have helped preserve its structural integrity. The back is not quite flush along the bass side where it was reglued. It continues to offer the dry, woody response and quick attack that have kept these early Gibson mandolins in regular use for generations.

Includes OHSC.
