This 1913 A-4 features an ebony finish that gives it a distinctive look, complemented by bound top and back, a fleur-de-lis headstock inlay, and the refined styling that set the A-4 apart from its contemporaries. More than a century later, it remains an impressive reminder of Gibson's earliest years in Kalamazoo. Its carved spruce top and maple back and sides produce a dry, open voice with quick response and plenty of character. Whether played with a flatpick or a lighter touch, it delivers the woody, direct sound that has made these early carved mandolins enduring favorites.
