Gibson A4 1921, Sunburst

This 1921 Gibson A-4 is an exceptionally clean, all-original example of Gibson's highest-grade A-style mandolin from the period. The carved spruce top and maple back and sides are complemented by an ebony fingerboard, mahogany neck, ivoroid binding, and the ornate rosette and fingerboard extension that distinguish the A-4. The original hardware and appointments remain intact, including the elevated pickguard, nickel-plated tuners, compensated bridge, and Gibson tailpiece. An unusually well-preserved example from the early 1920s, this A-4 offers a remarkably complete look at Gibson's mandolin work during the beginning of the Loar-era period.
