The Tweed-era Champ is renowned for its unmistakable charm, having long served as a studio secret weapon for musicians seeking a compact, focused sound. With a reputation built on simplicity and warmth, the 5F1 circuit remains a classic example of Fender’s approach to elegant, low-wattage design. In a world where smaller, lower-powered amps are gaining popularity, the Champ stands as the embodiment of stripped-down, functional brilliance.

This particular example wears all the classic character you’d hope to see from a well-loved Tweed Champ, with a gritty sound to match. While both the power and output transformers have been replaced (to USA Heyboers), make no mistake, this little amp still runs like a scalded monkey! Great amps aren’t necessarily great because the parts are old, but because the “recipe” of everything working together creates a certain harmonic magic.

Internally, the power cord, electrolytic caps, bias resistor, and one power resistor have been replaced. The coupling caps have also been swapped, quite auspiciously, for vintage Mullard Mustard caps, well known for their use in vintage Marshalls!
