This 1923 Gibson A-1 Black “Snakehead” mandolin is a remarkable piece of Gibson history, built during Lloyd Loar’s tenure at the company, a period highly regarded by vintage mandolin enthusiasts. These early oval-hole A-style instruments are celebrated for their craftsmanship, warm, expressive tone, and distinctive character. This example has been well cared for and is in good condition, with very minor scratches and dings throughout, along with beautiful, fine finish checking on the top.
