The Fender Precision Bass has historically transcended genres and decades alike, and this 1959 example is not only a classic, high-quality piece, but one with an impressive history. This particular bass has played a valuable role in the musical career of renowned musician, and half of the brother duo Nelson, Matt Nelson. In his words, it was fate that brought him to this bass, having just been refinished and restored by highly-respected Fender luthier and historian J.W. Black in 2010, finally ending Nelson's quest for the ultimate late 50's Precision. This bass is especially rare, featuring the specific combination of the original anodized gold guard and slab Rosewood fretboard, a transition spec that was only made for 3 months. In a three-page letter from Nelson to its lucky future owner, he writes this bass was his most prized possession for well over a decade and "the perfect example of Leo Fender's perfect invention."Â
Needless to say, this bass is incredibly special. Included with this bass are photos of the Nelson family, hand-written literature, and a signed copy of the 1990 Nelson record, After the Rain, on vinyl.
