This 1959 Fender Jazzmaster is an exceptionally early example finished in an original Custom Color white finish. The finish is 100% original, and the guitar predates Fender’s use of the name “Olympic White” on its color charts, which did not appear until 1960. As a result, describing this guitar simply as Custom Color White is more accurate to the period than applying the later Olympic White designation. Beyond the finish, it retains the distinctive features of Fender’s first-generation Jazzmaster, including the offset body, dual pickups, separate lead and rhythm circuits, floating tremolo system and anodized gold pickguard. Examples from this first year of Jazzmaster production are scarce in their own right, and the combination of a 1959 date and completely original white finish makes this a particularly notable early Fender.
