This 1924 Gibson H-4 Mandola in Sunburst is a Loar-era carved-top instrument with a focused, rounded voice and a strong low-mid presence. The spruce top and maple back and sides contribute to a clear, controlled response, with the deeper voice of a mandola. Notes carry with a smooth attack and remain well defined. It is an unusual example of a Gibson H-4 of any period since it comes with an original Virzi Tone Producer, a Loar-era invention that provides an enhanced sweetness and warmth to the mandola tone. The sustain is wonderful. The original pickguard has been removed due to some typical deterioration over time (included with the purchase), leaving a more open look across the top. Otherwise, the instrument retains its original construction and hardware. Condition is excellent, with only a few small finish dings and some light felt burn visible where the pickguard was installed. It remains a clean and well-preserved example from this early Gibson period.
Includes black Calton case and original hard shell case.
