This amp began life as a 1983 Mark IIC and was factory converted to IIC+ specifications in 1996. While many Mark Series amps can be converted to IIC+ spec, what makes this one particularly special is that it also features the same transformers found in original Mark IIC+ models, further ensuring a seamless, authentic sound. And it certainly delivers—it absolutely nails the tone. If you're chasing James Hetfield's legendary "Crunchberries" sound, this gets you about as close as it gets. It is currently set up with 4x 6L6 power tubes.
It's difficult to say with certainty whether the Red Crocodile covering was installed when the amp was originally built in 1983, though it was unquestionably done by Mesa/Boogie and shows plenty of age. The chassis is signed 11/83, and the "+" conversion marking above the power cord is accompanied by Mike B.'s initials. Please see the internal photos for further details.
Mesa/Boogie now offers a reissue, it's true - but this unique combination of an original Mark IIC, factory IIC+ conversion, and correct IIC+ transformers is something that simply can never be replicated in quite the same way, making these amps a very special purchase for the discerning player!
