This 1972 Martin 00-45 comes from a period when the company was building some of its most ornate steel-string models in relatively small numbers, pairing the compact 00 body size with full abalone trim throughout the top, fingerboard extension, and headstock. The smaller body gives the guitar a focused, immediate response, while the aging spruce top and rosewood body have developed the dry, open character. Visually, the natural finish and extensive pearl work give it a great early-’70s appearance.
This example has seen a fair amount of professional maintenance over the years, including a refret with the fingerboard radiused to roughly 20", a bridge reglue, plugged and redrilled bridge plate, neck block reglue, and several repaired cracks including one along the lower treble side of the pickguard. A cleat has also been added below the pickguard along the X brace, and the tuners have been replaced. The guitar retains a lively, responsive feel with the kind of seasoned tonal character that tends to come from decades of regular playing. Overall condition is very good with light finish checking and scattered signs of honest use throughout.
Includes OHSC.
