This 1929 Martin 00-18 in Natural finish is a remarkably well-preserved example from the late 1920s, showing the kind of care and light use that gives it a “closet queen” quality. It has received several thoughtful repairs aimed at keeping it structurally sound and fully playable, including a professional neck reset and a refinished back. The bridge currently on the guitar is a belly-style design built to exact factory spec, and while 1929 00-18s originally carried pyramid bridges, there is evidence that some instruments completed and shipped in early 1930 left the factory with the newer belly bridge configuration. As such, it’s difficult to say with certainty whether this bridge is a later replacement or an original early example of the transition period, but it presents as correct for either case. There appears to be a light overspray on the top, sides, and neck, executed cleanly and with respect for the guitar’s vintage finish. The result is a beautifully maintained pre-war Martin that plays effortlessly and delivers the rich, balanced, and open tone that defines these small-body 18-style instruments. Comes with the OHSc and a TKL HSC.
