The 1987 Silver Jubilee was a special edition amp, to commemorate Marshall's 50 years in the music industry (and 25th year building amps). While this is a model specific to the 1987 model year, many were made in 1988, before switching back to the traditional black tolex, gold panel design. These amps fall in a very special place, not only in collectability but with their design as well. It features the best qualities of both old and new eras for Marshall, while also capitalizing on the 80's ascent into higher gain territories. This amp is in very good condition with only minor signs of previous wear, and a small cigarette burn on the top side.
This is a particularly unique 2555, featuring a toggle-style power switch instead of the standard rocker, along with a mechanical fuse on the rear panel. More notably, it’s fitted with non-standard transformer selections: a Drake 789/63 power transformer in place of the typical T4145, a Dagnall 2723G output transformer instead of the usual C2668, and a Drake 1471/364 choke rather than the standard C2542. These appear to be factory-installed, and while most players may not notice a tonal difference, they are certainly noteworthy from a collectability standpoint!
The amp remains completely original, with only a single bias range resistor changed. The 100W 2555 is the most sought-after Jubilee model, and this one absolutely delivers on that hype!
