The Gretsch 6186 Clipper was introduced as a streamlined hollowbody that shared much of the company's styling without the extra ornamentation found on higher-end models. This 1961 example features a fully hollow laminated maple body and a single HiLo'Tron pickup, a combination that delivers the clear, open response these guitars are known for. The simple control layout and understated appointments give the Clipper a character all its own, emphasizing function without sacrificing the look of an early-'60s Gretsch. Finished in Sunburst, it captures a period when Gretsch was expanding its catalog to include instruments that appealed to a wide range of working musicians. More than sixty years later, the Clipper remains an enjoyable reminder that some of the company's most interesting guitars were also among its most understated.Includes OHSC.
