Description
Few guitars carry the same unmistakable mid-century appeal as a 1954 Gibson Les Paul Standard, and this Gold Top has plenty of history behind it. The original gold finish shows two distinct layers on the top, a characteristic that can be found on other original Goldtops from this period as Gibson worked through the challenges of applying the gold paint. This guitar was exposed to a house fire and subsequent moisture, resulting in water damage to the finish, but the top seam is stable and the slight separation at the neck extension has been professionally addressed by our in-house repair team. The headstock wings have been reattached and the front of the headstock has been oversprayed, while the bridge pickup has been rewound, the pots replaced, and the guitar refretted; 1960s Black Beauty capacitors were installed in the circuit. An additional metal plate sits beneath the jack plate, and strap locks have been installed. For a guitar approaching three quarters of a century old, its history is unusually visible, making this a compelling early Les Paul with the unmistakable look and feel of a genuine 1950s Goldtop.
Includes vintage "Cali Girl" Lifton hard shell case.
