Although originally marketed as a less extravagant take on the Les Paul Goldtop, the Gibson Les Paul Special, without a carved and painted maple cap, is every bit as iconic to music history. A slab mahogany body and set mahogany neck, and Brazilian Rosewood board, this two P90 pickup guitar strikes a fine balance between simplicity and quality design. A range of tones can be had with the spanning position of the p90s. The limed translucent checked nitro finish, deemed TV yellow, shows the beauty of the mahogany grain, which was unique for the 1950s when solid color car lacquer finishes reigned king. This naturally aged example is in great condition with the modification limited to the control cavity area: two plugged holes and two replaced pots. The original tuners are set aside in the original 4 latch pink-lined Lifton case.
