Goldtop Les Pauls of the '50s were in high demand in the late 60's, so Gibson delivered to the market. They started off with reissuing the P90s in '68 and '69, and then went to a minihumbucker version, the "Deluxe". The "Deluxe" was a step up in design for the Les Paul when it was introduced. The "Deluxe" was crafted with a pancake body, consisting of a thin strip of maple "pancaked" between two blocks of mahogany. Gibson also started to introduce maple into the construction of the neck along with changing out the pickups for mini humbuckers. The result was iconic in its own right, but a previous owner took advantage of the smaller size of the minihumbucker route and tastefully put P90s in it. So essentially, this is now pre-Deluxe in specs, almost like a '69.
