Produced as a stand-in for the Advanced Jumbo, the J-55 is an excellent example of Gibson dreadnought sound. The playing experience resembles an Advanced Jumbo very well with slight modifications to the design. Mahogany back and sides pairs well with a sunburst-clad spruce top for a clear and projecting sound. The rosewood bridge is a replacement but resembles the original. At some point the guitar was fully refinished but still resembles a vintage guitar with wear and finish checking. This J-55 received a neck set, crack repairs on the sides and at the tongue extension. A repaired back crack, replaced pickguard, replaced tuners and a new nut are also modifications to this instrument. Overall the condition is very good and in excellent playing order. The tone is dry and full of clarity with plenty of bottom end. The J-55 is a beautiful and rare instrument that performs well with heavy strumming and moderate finger picking. Designed to fill the role of the AJ, the J-55 is an impressive counterpart that adds a new dimension to any sloped shoulder collection.
