The beautiful predecessor to the Southern Jumbo, this J-55 from 1940 s a rare piece in Gibson history. Pre-war Gibsons are iconic for their dry/warm/boomy sound; this is no exception in thanks to its tapered (non-scalloped) bracing style. With a bound Brazilian Rosewood and an inlaid logo in the headstock, this was a high-class guitar for its time. At some point in its repair history, the neck was refinished; it has since been reset and professionally refretted. The body has light overspray but retains its checking. With only minor reglued hairline cracks on the rim, this guitar is in structurally good condition. Someone definitely loved this guitar; the owner's initials were found on the underside (now topside) truss rod cover.
Comes in assumedly original circa 1940 hardshell case in fair condition.
