Perhaps the most desireable post-Banner Gibson model, the extremely rare script logo J-50 has a very famous artist in its historical roster -- Bob Dylan. There were very few J-50s made in 1947, so one of those winding up in the hands of Bob is quite special. Script logo Gibsons are a wonderful marriage of wartime and post-war specs, the rectangular bridge makes it Banner like, but the truss rod in the less full neck bring it forward. Lore goes that J-50's, in natural finish, cost more than their J-45 counterparts due to higher quality spruce that wouldn't be able to hide behind a sunburst finish. What we do know is that it sounds incredible and can pull off the "Free-Wheelin'" sound, whether it is strummed like Masters of War or finger-picked like Don't Think Twice.
To maintain structural integrity of the years, this example received a bridge reglue, neck reset (with light finish spray around the joint), and a replica maple bridge plate. Multiple braces have been reglued, as par for the course of old Gibsons. We are excited to offer this 78yr old survivor to the collector and songwriting world. And would you have it? The vintage, potentially original, hardshell case has "Bob" painted across the lid.
