Gibson's legendary F-5 mandolin has inspired countless builders and players alike! Lloyd Loar designed the F-5 in 1922, incorporating more violin influence than previous models. Though Loar left in 1924, Gibson continued to make the F-5 through the 1920s. This 1929 model features a fern headstock inlay and is one of the last to feature small dot inlays instead of squares.
Structurally this F-5 Fern feels sound, and plays beautifully with a full, punchy tone. There's lots of finish wear and tear, with spots along the edge, back and scroll where it's been rubbed away. A small hole on the top bass side above the strings indicates a possible past repair, possibly something done to reinforce a brace inside. Reach out for a further in-hand description! Comes with a newer fitted rectangular case.
