Gibson's legendary F-5 mandolin has inspired countless builders and players alike! Lloyd Loar designed the F-5 in 1922, incorporating more violin influence than previous models. Though Loar left in 1924, Gibson continued to make the F-5 through the 1920s. This 1928 model features a fern headstock inlay and is one of the last to feature small dot inlays instead of squares.
As to be expected, this nearly century-old mandolin has had its share of work and touch-ups, including a newer bridge, saddle and pickguard. But it certainly has the tone that's made them so sought after. Loud, resonant, with sweet trebles and a bit of bite under the right attack, the playability and intonation are excellent.
