Dating from March 31, 1924 and signed by the master himself, this Gibson F-5 Fern was built in Lloyd Loar's final year at Gibson, and it's every bit the musical legend you'd expect it to be! Only a small number of Loar-signed F-5 Ferns exist, and are highly regarded as examples of his best work. This mandolin is in overall very good, beautifully preserved condition. The virzi has been removed, which means the back has been off at some point. On his last visit in 2022, luthier Steve Gilchrist also replaced the corners with bone.
