Modifications/RepairsRefinished long ago, that finish was subsequently removed and the guitar is now a thin satin natural finish, holly veneer on headstock removed, face of headstock painted black, logo and headstock inlay replaced, tuners replaced, covers were off the PAFs and they're back on now, neck pickup volume pot replaced in 1973, pickguard replaced, bridge replaced with 70s "Harmonica" bridge (think Frank Zappa).
This 1962 Gibson SG/Les Paul is a true rock ’n’ roll machine with a long, evolving history. Originally refinished many years ago, it was later stripped back to a thin satin natural finish, giving it a raw, stripped-down look that suits its character. The headstock has been significantly updated over time, with the original holly veneer removed, the face painted black, and both the logo and inlay replaced. Tuners have also been changed. Under the hood, it’s seen its share of work as well. The PAF pickups once had their covers removed but are currently back in place. The neck volume pot was replaced in 1973, and the guitar retains a mix of original and later components, including three CentraLab pots from the 41st week of 1962 (1346241) and a CTS pot dated to the 9th week of 1973 (1377309). Additional updates include a replaced pickguard and a 1970s “Harmonica” style bridge, similar to setups favored by players like Frank Zappa. Despite all the changes, it remains a deeply charismatic instrument. A rare chance to own a piece of Gibson’s golden-era foundation, with plenty of stories built in. Comes with OHC.
