The Superchief was designed to fill the gap in the Matchless lineup for a true 100w head. True to their overachieving style, Mark Sampson and the team built an equally overbuilt amplifier, using massive transformers and producing 120w of power (with a half-power switch included). The sound is massive, with a deep, musical bass response thanks to twin 5U4GB rectifiers. With the "A/B" gain modes, you can dial in a high-headroom sound or a wall of crunch, landing somewhere between a Hiwatt and Plexi tone. The master volume control is very useful for dialing in the perfect balance between volume and gain.
The production numbers are estimated around 50 or under, making it an ultra-rare find today. Condition-wise it's pretty much flawless, with only minimal signs of previous wear. If you're in the market for a matching 4x12, the equally rare ES421D 4x12 cabinet is also available for sale!
