Grab yourself a slice of California folk-rock history with this Martin D-28 given by Graham Nash to the great singer-songwriter Judee Sill! Judee released two albums in the 1970s, combining folk sounds with classical-inspired instrumentation and arrangements, toured with Nash & Crosby and Roy Harper, and co-wrote or contributed songs to acts like the Turtles. Graham gave this guitar to Judee after one of their tours together (the seller includes an email and a signed letter from Graham himself confirming the guitar's authenticity).
This guitar is a great example of early '60s Martin craftsmanship, featuring some beautiful straight-grained Brazilian rosewood (Martin's use of BRW would end later in 1969) and Sitka spruce. Tonally, it's balanced and warm, drier than you might expect for rosewood and articulate across the registers. The current set-up is especially nice for fingerpicking and lighter strumming. We will note, it was buffed to a high gloss and it has had a previous neck set and bridge reglue. A "Live Life" sticker decorates the bass side of the guitar, and in further confirmation of the provenance, the case sports a "Clergy" sticker (Judee was a devout Christian) as well as her name and Silver Lake address.
