This 1950 Martin D-28 is finish in the exceptionally rare shade top over a spruce top with stunning Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The classic combination delivers a strong low end with clear trebles and a balanced overall response. This example has seen a handful of necessary repairs over time, including a neck reset, refret, and bridge reglue, along with repaired center seam top cracks reinforced with maple cleats. Additionally the bridge had holes drilled in it previously that have been address with ebony plugs.
Cosmetically, there is visible playwear throughout, including the repaired top cracks, dings and wear across the back, and finish burn along the neck in the first position and at the lower back. It remains in very good condition for its age, and carries a powerful tone. Martin production records show only four "dark top" D-28 guitars were shipped in 1950, and this rare piece is one of the four!
Includes vintage hard shell case.
