This 1938 D-28 is a historically significant instrument, once owned and played by Bob McNett, guitarist for Hank Williams’ Drifting Cowboys from 1948 to 1950. McNett’s connection to this guitar ties it directly to the golden era of country music, carrying with it both history and character. In recent years, the guitar has undergone substantial restoration, skillfully executed to honor its vintage integrity while ensuring its structural and tonal longevity.

The restorations include a complete refinish and an expertly matched old-growth Adirondack spruce top, both vital steps to preserve the guitar’s rich tonal properties. A neck reset, refret, and new nut and bridge were also added, optimizing its playability and intonation. Structural repairs include the stabilization of side and back cracks with cleats—15 cleats along the treble side, 7 on the bass side upper bout, and 12 along the back treble side lower bout—reinforcing the guitar’s original construction and preventing future damage.
