This 1954 Martin D-18 is a well-played example from one of the most desirable periods of the model’s production. Built with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, it carries the understated appointments that made the D-18 a mainstay in American acoustic music throughout the postwar years. Decades of use have left a visible mark on the guitar, with heavy play wear across the top and back that speaks to a long history of regular use.
The guitar has received a number of professional repairs and maintenance procedures over its lifetime, including a neck reset, refret, bridge reglue, and the installation of a Nojak. Additional work includes repaired cracks on the top and sides, a plugged and finished output jack hole, and localized finish touch-up in the elbow-wear area. Two small holes remain in the top, one of which has been doweled.
