This custom ordered D-45 style Martin is not for the faint of sight. The abalone designs engulf the guitar with reflective adornments from the headstock to the end-pin. A rarity in the dreadnought world compared to more humble models, the style 45 instruments showcase a wood choice and detailing that represent more than simply guitar building tradition. Be it handcraft or CNC machines, the inlay work is a remarkable feat of delicate crafting of materials intertwined with maintaining the integrity of a wonderful sounding instrument. This guitar stands in excellent condition with very little wear for its 22 year life. A vibrant "Tree of Life" inlay on the fretboard is visually exciting and draws the eye across the instrument to meet the triple Abalone rosette all the way to the multiple bindings on the headstock. Martin spared no expense on producing this custom order dreadnought for a customer determined to derive every ounce of tone and aesthetic impression out of the guitar. This is an excellent player that has a pleasant compressed rosewood sound. Referencing a compressed sound often instills a thought of low volume, however it is a better descriptor of an even and balanced sound. The rosewood and spruce junction at a point of warmth and clarity, particularly noticeable when singular notes are played.
